Third day of protests against pension reform in France

On the third day of protests once morest the planned pension reform, numerous trains and buses are to be canceled in France tomorrow. The main trade unions have jointly called for demonstrations. The French government wants to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 by 2030.

The debate in the National Assembly started today in a heated mood. It is regarding the “survival of the pension system,” said Labor Minister Olivier Dussopt, who was only able to give his speech following several attempts due to excited heckling from the plenary.

Dussopt described the reform as necessary for the “survival of the pension system”. At the same time, he was open to improvements. The reform also includes an increase in the minimum pension to 1,200 euros. In addition, the employment of seniors should be promoted. More than a million people took to the streets on each of the first two days of protests in January.
