Within 24 hours, an increase of 51 Omikron cases was recorded in Lower Austria – about ten percent of the total new infections.

That, as in Vienna, the Omikron variant is already the dominant mutation compared to Delta, cannot be confirmed for Lower Austria. But you notice a noticeable increase – little by little. According to the state medical staff, Omikron could be the predominant variant in Lower Austria at the end of January.

At the moment, however, no one can precisely predict the speed at which Omikron will spread in Lower Austria. In the next few days, however, a further increase in Omikron cases is expected.

A total of 232 Omikron cases in Lower Austria

A total of 564 new positive cases were reported in Lower Austria on Wednesday morning, including 51 Omikron cases.

According to the medical staff, the total number of Omikron cases in the state rose to 232. 198 people were actively infected, none of which had to be treated in hospital. The average age of those who tested positive was 32.1 years.

20 cases in the initial reception center

According to the information, a corona cluster was still recorded in the initial reception center Traiskirchen (Baden district). The number of infected people remained unchanged at 20. There are currently no other larger clusters in Lower Austria.

The situation in the hospitals: On Wednesday 62 patients were treated in the intensive care units in Lower Austria’s hospitals. There were 145 patients in the normal wards.
