Three people from Salzburg lost large sums of money to internet fraudsters

The Salzburg police have reported three cases of fraud in which the victims lost large sums of money.

A man from Flachgau spent a good 100,000 euros on an alleged job as an internet salesman, a woman from Salzburg invested a high five-figure sum in supposed travel deals, and a man from Pinzgau transferred 76,500 euros to an internet acquaintance. All three saw no more money.

A 40-year-old from Flachgau registered in April to start working as a salesperson in an online shop. He was then asked to pre-finance the goods offered for sale. When he was asked more and more frequently to make further payments to a wallet, he stopped doing so, whereupon the platform blocked the electronic wallet. The man sustained damage in the low six-figure range.

In July, a 51-year-old woman from Salzburg came across an obviously profitable business on the homepage of a “travel company”: trips were being offered for sale, which might supposedly be resold shortly followingwards with a commission. The woman “invested” a sum in the high five figures that she never saw once more.

And a 45-year-old from Pinzgau met a woman online in March. As the contact became more intensive, they also spoke to each other repeatedly on the phone. The woman asked the Salzburger for money. He then transferred 76,500 euros to three different accounts. But now he began to doubt the matter and filed a fraud report with the police.
