Today we publish the updates of the Community guidelines of Tiktok, designed to guarantee everyone and all of a safe experience while creating, discovering and connecting on our platform. We make the clarity of the rules our priority, because we believe that people give their best – more creatively, authentic and engagingly – when they feel safe. These updates reflect our deep commitment to security, offering a simpler and more direct language, greater transparency and the introduction or enhancement of some policies. The update is part of our continuous work to make Tiktok a safe and protected space, which includes one series of functionality Dedicated to protect teenagers, families, creator and our entire community.
What has changed
Our new latest news aim to improve the guidelines of the existing community, with the aim of making them clearer and easier to follow. Their formulation is the result of conversations and focus groups with the Creators, to better grasp their needs, and the comparison with experts and organizations from over 30 markets, including ours Advisory Council regional. In particular, the Creators required us a simpler and unique language and definitions, as well as a coherent application of the rules, to be able to follow them and build flourishing communities on our platform.
To meet these needs, we added a section rules in summary which offers a summary of each policy, making the information more accessible. We have also implemented some new rules and standard, including updates to better face content such as viral disinformation; Armored others such as those relating to bullying as well as strengthening different categories – such as gambling, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, firearms and dangerous weapons – in a single unified policy on regulated goods and services.
To help Creators and users to better understand the rules relating to their accounts and our products, we expanded the “Account and Functionality” section, providing a more detailed description of our safety measures for tools such as direct messaging, comments, live and TikTok shop. We have also increased transparency on how to apply our guidelines. For example, we explain how we manage the emerging risks during the crises and provide more information on how our policies are adapted in the different regions to reflect and respect local cultures and norms.
How we apply our rules
Parallel to the strengthening of our community guidelines, we have improved training to ensure that human moderators and automatic systems apply the rules in a coherent and accurate way. We continue to invest in moderation technologies, including artificial intelligence, to further expand our proactive approach to the application of the rules. Today, over 85% of the content removed for violation of our community guidelines is identified and removed automatically, and 99% of these content is eliminated before it is even reported to us. We make it simple for creators to present appeals against removal or restrictions, and appeal rates have remained stable despite the increase in the use of moderation technologies.
Starting today, we will begin to report to all users the update of our Community guidelines, which will enter into force starting from September 13, 2025. We all encourage to familiarize yourself with our rules and tools available to create, share and discover safely on TikTok.
