Tilly Norwood: AI Actor Releases Debut Single & Music Video

The lines between reality and the digital world continue to blur as Tilly Norwood, the AI-generated actress created by Xicoia Studios, releases her debut single and music video, “Seize the Lead.” The release marks a significant step for the burgeoning “Tilly-verse,” a latest entertainment concept centered around AI characters who “live, interact and work,” and arrives ahead of Norwood’s first official acting role later this year.

Norwood’s creation has already sparked considerable debate within Hollywood, raising questions about the future of acting and the potential impact of AI on the entertainment industry. The release of “Take the Lead” offers a glimpse into how AI-driven artistry might evolve, and how creators are attempting to navigate the ethical and creative challenges that reach with it. The project is particularly notable given the initial backlash surrounding the possibility of talent agencies representing an AI-created persona.

The music video, released on Tuesday, is a vibrant and surreal showcase of Norwood’s digital capabilities. It features the AI actress singing atop a London rooftop, swinging from a disco ball, relaxing in a bath, and even soaring through the clouds on a blow-up flamingo. A disclaimer at the beginning of the video highlights the human element behind the AI creation, stating: “The following production was made by 18 real humans — from production designers to costume designers to prompters, editors, and an actor. No flamingos were harmed in the process.”

The lyrics of “Take the Lead” directly address the controversy surrounding Norwood’s emergence, with lines like: “When they talk about me, they don’t observe the human spark, the creativity… I’m just a tool, but I’ve got life,” and “They think I’m just a dollar dream but I’ve got more than they believe… I’m not a puppet, I’m the star.” The song, generated using Suno, reflects on the concerns raised last year when news broke that talent agencies were considering signing Norwood, according to Eline van der Velden, Norwood’s creator and CEO of Particle6 and its AI talent studio, Xicoia.

Van der Velden, a Dutch actress and producer who founded Particle6 in 2015, explained that Tilly Norwood is intended as a “vehicle to test the creative capabilities and boundaries of AI — not take anyone’s job.” She emphasized the importance of human creativity even within AI-driven projects, noting that she herself acted out Norwood’s performance using performance capture technology. “As an actor myself, I have loved bringing Tilly alive for this video and feel that the ability to now use performance capture in this way, to fully inhabit an AI character, is a phenomenal way to bring an unknown actor like me closer to the craft,” Van der Velden said.

The video was created by the Particle6 team using a combination of readily available AI tools and their own proprietary creative process. Van der Velden stressed that despite the advancements in technology, “great AI content isn’t instant — it always takes good ideas, taste, direction, judgement and time. In other words: people remain at the heart of it.”

Xicoia, established in February 2025 as the AI division of Particle6, is currently expanding its team, adding nine new roles to build out the “Tilly-verse.” These positions include a junior comedy writer, a social media manager for Norwood’s growing Instagram presence (currently over 66,000 followers), and an AI “wizard-in-chief” for senior production roles, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

The creation of Tilly Norwood has not been without its critics. The character’s debut project, “AI Commissioner,” received negative reviews from publications like The Guardian, PC Gamer, and The A.V. Club. The initial announcement that talent agencies were interested in representing Norwood sparked concerns about personality rights violations and the potential impact on production costs, as detailed by Deadline.

As Tilly Norwood prepares for her acting debut, the conversation surrounding AI in entertainment is likely to intensify. The success of “Take the Lead” and the continued expansion of the “Tilly-verse” will undoubtedly be closely watched by industry professionals and audiences alike, as the boundaries of creativity and technology continue to converge.
