To tan the leather of its cars, Bentley turns to olive oil

Bentley is constantly looking to improve its use of sustainable materials, and this new option is an important step in that regard.

What makes ‘Olive Tan’ leather special is a sustainable tanning process that uses a natural by-product of olive oil production. Derived from the vegetable waters obtained during the pressing of the olives to extract the oil, the tanning agent is devoid of metals, minerals and other substances that are difficult to recycle.

Less water

The technique consumes less water than a conventional tanning process and also allows greater use of renewable chemicals. Bentley claims that the leather thus treated is “incredibly soft”. The builder, like a gentleman, even quotes its subcontractor, not giving itself all the credit: “We are the first car manufacturer to use this advanced technology for treating vegetable water from the Pasubio tannery. »

“Olive Tan” leather will make its first appearance in a new Bentley model unveiled August 18 during Monterey Car Week in California.
