The Day of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is celebrated every year on the first Sunday of August since 2007 in accordance with the relevant decree of the President of Ukraine. This year the holiday falls on August 4.
The Air Force of Ukraine is one of the main carriers of the combat potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This highly maneuverable type of armed forces is designed, together with the Air Defense Forces, to protect the airspace of the country, attack enemy targets from the air, provide air support for its own troops, drop airborne troops, air transport of troops and materiel, and conduct aerial reconnaissance.
The Air Force was created in 2004 by merging two types: the Air Force and the Air Defense Forces of Ukraine.
