From this Monday it will come into operation a new AVE between Figueres Vilafant and Barcelona. The frequency will allow to reinforce the mid-morning strip (the train will leave Figueres-Vilafant at 11.31). And in the opposite sense, Renfe will incorporate a new train in the afternoon. It will leave Barcelona-Sants at 16.36 and will fill the two-hour gap without any frequency that existed until now. Users have long been demanding that all convoys that existed before the pandemic be recovered. In fact, this has been a recurring criticism from customers towards Renfe that has now incorporated this new train for each direction to start responding.
Right now, eight high-speed trains run between Figueres and Barcelona every day. They are almost half of those that existed before the outbreak of covid-19. Renfe admitted that this offer is fair at certain times of the day, and that it was considering extending it until 100% of the frequencies were recovered. In parallel, the public company has explained that, gradually “, the company will increase the places of the Avant services in this relation. With the new offer, specifically Renfe, “passengers will have almost 25,000 seats per week”, which will be a 45% increase over the current ones. Isaías Táboas also noted that, in the coming months, will be incorporated new AVE frequencies on the Figueres-Barcelona corridor. The company’s intention, as announced last week, is for 100% of pre-pandemic services to be recovered by June 2022.
