Tony Kanaan prepares to participate in the 2023 Indianapolis Grand Prix

Brazilian driver Tony Kanaan has confirmed his intention to participate in the upcoming Indianapolis 500 race, which will be his 22nd participation in the IndyCar series.

The tour will start on May 28 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (the Oval).

Kanaan, the 2013 race winner, announced that he will participate in the 107th edition of the race during a live broadcast on Instagram.

“I’ll be there, I’m going to race,” he said.

The Brazilian indicated that he is trying to participate with the Ganassi team in the race for the 2023 season, following finishing the last race in third place with them, which is his best result since his victory in 2013, and stressed that the team’s plans are still not defined for the race, especially since the driver Jamie Johnson previously stated that he will leave the team.

Kanaan continued, “If Johnson is not in the team behind the wheel of the fourth car, I may not be in the team, because he will drive the fifth.”

He added: “I have many options with other teams, and I spoke with the Ganassi team last week and told them if it is not done with you I will look for other teams, and they said to me of course we understand that.”

“They also told me, the important thing is where you can get a good result, and we support your decisions.”
