There are great films and some rarer ones that change your outlook. Of the Structure of the Human Body is one of them. After their doc on cannibalism, anthropologists and filmmakers Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor open the body in cinema, with endoscopic cameras, and show extraordinary visions that evoke Kubrick’s 2001. Without voiceover, without reference points, the viewer navigates through the brain, the colon, the abdomen… Of Humans is like an immersive, captivating trip. Soon, a bloody cavity reveals the immensity of the cosmos, psychedelic landscapes, a galaxy. Then the camera zooms out and we discover that we were in the urethra! The infinitely large turns out to be the inside of a penis. Beyond astonishment…
