The Australian, Ashleigh Barty, shocked the tennis world following she decided to end her career in the courts at the age of only 25, to confirm that what she hinted at following winning the Australian Open title was not for nothing.
“Today is a difficult and emotional day for me as I announce my retirement from tennis,” Barty, the world number one, said in a video clip today, Wednesday, on “Instagram.”
In the touching video, which she filmed alongside her best friend and former doubles partner, Casey Delacqua, Barty said she was “grateful for everything this sport has given me.”
She continued, “I am very happy and very ready and I know at the moment in my heart as a person that this is the right move. I am very grateful for everything that tennis has given me. It has given me everything I dreamed of and more.”
