A 31-year-old man has barricaded himself inside an apartment in Torrejón de Ardoz, Madrid, on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a significant police response. According to police and emergency services, the man is alone and armed.
The incident is unfolding at a residence on the fourth floor of number 29 Granados Street. Police Nacional, supported by the Torrejón de Ardoz Local Police, have established a security perimeter around the building, according to TeleMadrid. Authorities have described the situation as “critical.”
Before a negotiator arrived on the scene, authorities attempted to contact the man through friends, but these efforts were unsuccessful. A specialist negotiator was then requested to attempt to persuade him to surrender.
As a precaution, a unit from the Madrid Community Fire Department and the Summa 112 emergency medical service have also been deployed to the location, prepared to intervene if required by police.
A friend of the man, who has not been named, indicated that he had recently lost his job as a delivery driver. It’s currently unknown whether this job loss is connected to his decision to barricade himself.
A neighbor described the man as “problematic, but not with the community.” The neighbor also stated that the man previously lived with his son.
