Stephen Williams (Bahrain) won the 1st stage of the Tour de Suisse, which arrived in Küsnacht. The Welshman won following a sprint that mixed the main favorites of this event. Marc Hirschi failed in 4th place.
Willliams (26) had so far his main achievement in the Tour of Croatia 2021. He surprised the favorites in a sprint which brought together around fifteen riders. The German Maximilian Schachmann took 2nd place ahead of the Dane Andreas Kron.
The Swiss did not go far. Hirschi finished at the foot of the podium, while Stefan Küng, who attacked on the last climb, finished 7th in the same time as the winner.
