“Trade Unions Protest for Workers’ Rights: Delhaize and TotalEnergies in the Spotlight”

The leaders of the trade union organizations spoke before the start of the demonstration.

Marc Leemans, president of the ACV-CSC, opened the ball. According to him, Delhaize constitutes “a target of the right because the elite decided we all had to work longer, harder and cheaper“. “With this demonstration, we show that we will not be intimidated. People have human rights. We demand respect for every worker: decent pay, decent work and the right to protest! At Delhaize, at TotalEnergies, at all employers“, he added.

FGTB President Thierry Bodson described the protest as “of history“. “We are experiencing a real shift. It is the right to strike which is today in danger in our country. We cannot accept that the right to trade is opposed to the right to occupy public space. Remind judges and politicians that under ILO Convention 87, the right to strike is considered a fundamental right“, declared Thierry Bodson. “You who lead, you must understand one thing: in a democracy, power and counter-power hold hands. If the power no longer respects the counter-power, there is no more democracy“, lambasted the leader of the socialist union.
