Around 7:30 a.m., a woman was mowed down by a tractor, in front of Thulin station, while she was crossing the road, according to Sudinfo. The tractor tried to avoid the pedestrian, but was unable to do anything. Unfortunately, emergency services were unable to do anything and the woman died on the spot.
According to the mayor of Hensies, Eric Thiébaut, it was a 24-year-old woman, living in Quiévrain, who was crossing with a stroller to take her child to daycare. “Two tractors crossed paths. She crossed behind the one who had just passed and the other who was coming in the other direction saw it too late and was unable to avoid it,” explains the mayor.
Miraculously, the baby was spared, “but the nursery staff are in shock. This young mother came every day to drop off her baby before taking the train to go to work,” laments the mayor.
A security perimeter has been established by the Hauts-Pays police zone and rue du Maïeur Jean Duhot is, for the moment, blocked. An investigation was opened to determine the causes of the accident.
