A 9-year-old boy reportedly found a gun before fatally shooting another child at a residence in Florida, USA.
The 6-year-old victim was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries, CNN reports.
An adult who was present in the residence where the tragedy occurred has been questioned by the authorities, but no one has been arrested so far.
The deputy chief of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says the circumstances of the shootings are still under investigation.
This incident is far from the first involving firearms and children in the United States this year.
According to the Gun Violence Archive website, 1,114 children (17 and under) died as a result of an act of gun violence and 3,065 others were injured.
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reveals that firearms were responsible for 19% of child deaths in 2021.
