A 20-year-old Belgian tourist died Sunday evening in the south of France following being found unconscious on the seabed a day earlier. Local media reports that.

The young man was swimming with three friends on Saturday in Saména Bay, near the Calanques National Park in Marseille, when they were all swept away by the waves. His friends were quickly pulled out of the water by passers-by, but the 20-year-old reportedly lost consciousness following hitting the rocks. According to the newspaper La Provence, the man was 100 meters from the shore when he disappeared.

The young man was only found following an hour of searching on the seabed, 14 meters deep. Unexpectedly, rescuers managed to resuscitate him, but he died in hospital on Sunday evening.
