A baby died following being bitten by a dog Thursday in Emmeloord, in the north of the Netherlands, according to the results of an investigation and the autopsy carried out on the remains. The animal was already seized on Thursday. No arrests were ordered.
Police were called to Antonius Hospital in Emmeloord on Thursday morning where the baby had been admitted. The police did not specify whether the victim was still alive when they arrived. It is also unclear who dropped off the child at the hospital.
On Thursday, the parents’ home was searched. That’s when the dog was seized. The animal is still alive, according to the police.
As the cause of death was unclear, police and prosecutors requested an autopsy which was performed over the weekend. This revealed that the baby had died of a bite. The investigation is continuing.
