This Friday, August 4 around 12:20 p.m., in Houyet, a dramatic traffic accident caused the death of a 63-year-old cyclist from Namur. The victim is Mrs. Laurence Dubois, from Belgrade.
The facts took place on a narrow road in the hamlet of Ferage. The lady was riding a bicycle alongside her husband when an agricultural convoy traveling in the same direction approached.
The exact circumstances of the accident are not yet determined but it seems that the two cyclists stopped on the grassy verge along the road in order to let the agricultural convoy, consisting of a tractor and a dumpster, pass. . As the convoy, belonging to a farmer in the region, passed, the cyclist lost her balance and fell under the wheels of the dumpster.
Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services of the Dinaphi area, nothing might be done for the victim, who died on the spot. His body was removed by Mathot Funeral Homes in Celles.
This drama caused a major stir in the small hamlet of Ferage. The couple was known there because they have a second home in the hamlet of Herhet, some two and a half kilometers from the site of the accident.
