NEW YORK — Two people were killed and four others injured in a vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning in Washington Heights. The incident ended with one of the cars overturned, police said.

The accident happened just before 7:00 am in West 179th Street y Audubon Avenue.

Video from the scene shows bystanders trying to help victims by ducking and trying to tend to those trapped in a Hyundai Elantra that struck several parked cars and a Jeep, then flipped over on its side.

The flipped Hyundai was still in the middle of Audubon Avenue at 11:00 a.m. Monday. According to police, five people were inside that vehicle: two of them were pronounced dead.

A person inside the Jeep that was struck is also recovering from injuries sustained in the crash.

The extent of injuries to those involved in the crash was not immediately known.

However, the impact of the crash was so strong that the residents of the neighborhood ran to the place to try to help.

“Two of them were passed out,” witness Jonathan Perez said. “To be honest, they didn’t even seem to be alive. One of them was just moving and standing.”

Law enforcement sources familiar with the incident told our sister network News 4 New York that the Hyundai Elantra involved in the tragedy was stolen.

The accident shut down vehicular traffic in the area surrounding the accident in Audubon Avenue between the streets West 179th y West 180th.

The case is under investigation.
