Training shock at 1. FC Köln: Substitute goalkeeper Philipp Pentke caused a moment of shock due to an injury sustained during the morning session and a subsequent emergency doctor call-out.

The 38-year-old slipped into a floor covering during an exercise and sustained a flesh wound.

Consequence: Pentke held his right knee in severe pain, coach Steffen Baumgart immediately took care of his player, who lay on the floor for minutes.

As SPORT1 observed, Pentke was first treated on the pitch by physiotherapist Marvin Kreuzwieser before he was taken directly to the MediaPark Clinic in the ambulance. There the injury was treated further and an MRI scan was carried out.

A blessing in disguise: Apart from the flesh wound, Pentke suffered no other injuries. The wound was cleaned and stitched in an operation that followingnoon.

“At first it looked bad. That’s why we’re very happy that it’s not worse. Nevertheless, I feel sorry for the boy, we wish him a speedy recovery,” Baumgart is quoted as saying on the FC homepage.

It is unclear when Schwäbe will be usable once more.

Schwäbe is the clear number one in Baumgart’s squad, Pentke signed a one-year contract with FC in August.
