Triple Your Solar Energy Output: Canton’s Ambitious Goals and Strategies for 2035 and Beyond

The canton has big goals. Currently producing 200 gigawatt hours (Gwh) per year of photovoltaic solar energy, it has announced that it wants to triple its annual output by 2035 and even reach 1,300 Gwh before 2050.

According to the Council of State, the installation of panels will be done as a priority on “existing buildings and infrastructures, as well as on the ground, in the building zone and on certain surfaces which would lend themselves particularly to it”. But “these installations must not cause major damage to protected buildings or sites.”

To achieve these objectives, the executive relies on “the exemplary nature of public authorities, communication and training, adaptations of the legal framework in force,
