Avangrid, a subsidiary of energy company Iberdrola in the United States, has begun construction of True North, a 240 MW photovoltaic project in Falls County, Texas, which will supply renewable energy to Meta in the region under a PPA announced in March.

Since 2020, Meta’s global operations have been supported by 100% renewable energy. The True North project will support Meta’s upcoming data center in Temple, its second data center facility in Texas.

True North, Avangrid’s first solar farm in Texas, is expected to reach the commercial operations phase in early 2025.

This year, Iberdrola has commissioned Lund Hill, with 150 MW, in Washington; it has signed an agreement with the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority to install up to 1 GW in its territory and has put into operation the 205 MW Pachwáywit Fields plant, the largest in the state of Oregon.

With more than 8.6 GW of installed renewable capacity, Avangrid is the third largest renewable energy operator in the US and one of the leading developers of renewable energy in the country.
