TU Dortmund Instagram Giveaway: Win a Scarf! (Feb 18-26, 2026)

by Sophie Lin - Technology Editor

TU Dortmund University’s International Office is hosting a giveaway on Instagram, offering three lucky followers the chance to win a scarf from the university’s campus shop. The contest, designed to engage with the international student community, runs from February 18, 2026, to February 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM Central European Time (MEZ). This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for students from around the globe and promoting its international programs.

The giveaway, organized by the Referat Internationales, aims to increase engagement with the office’s Instagram channel and gather perspectives on what “international” means to its followers. Participants are required to like the giveaway post, answer the question “What does international mean to you?” in the comments, and follow the Referat Internationales Instagram account – @tudo_international – to be eligible. Multiple comments will be considered as a single entry, streamlining participation for those with extensive thoughts on the topic.

Participation in the contest signifies agreement with the official terms and conditions, which emphasize adherence to Instagram and Meta’s community guidelines, German law, and copyright regulations. Comments violating these standards will be removed without notice, disqualifying the respective participants. The university’s commitment to maintaining a respectful and lawful online environment is central to the contest’s framework.

Eligibility is open to all individuals following the Referat Internationales Instagram page. Employees of the Referat Internationales at TU Dortmund University and their family members are excluded from participation, ensuring fairness and transparency in the selection process. The three winners will be chosen randomly after the contest concludes.

Winners will be notified via Instagram comment and, if their privacy settings allow, through a direct message. They will then be contacted to arrange a convenient time to collect their prize from the office of Famke Lang, in the Social Media section of the Referat Internationales, located on the North Campus at Emil-Figge-Straße 73, 44227 Dortmund. Winners have six weeks from the date of notification to claim their scarf. If a winner fails to collect the prize within this timeframe, or does not respond within 72 hours of the announcement to arrange pickup, a new winner will be randomly selected.

To receive their prize, winners must provide their name and Instagram username to the Referat Internationales. Participants consent to the temporary storage of their personal data for the duration of the contest, solely for the purpose of prize distribution. This data will be deleted after the contest ends, although comments on Instagram will remain publicly visible. Further information regarding data protection can be found here. This consent is voluntary and can be revoked at any time by contacting Famke Lang via email or written correspondence at Emil-Figge-Str. 73, 44227 Dortmund.

The university clarifies that the giveaway is not affiliated with, sponsored, or organized by Instagram. Responsibility for the contest lies solely with TU Dortmund, Referat Internationales, and its Social Media team, with Famke Lang as the primary contact. This separation emphasizes the independent nature of the promotion.

According to the contest rules, German law governs the giveaway, and no legal recourse is available. This standard clause is common in promotional contests within Germany.

The Referat Internationales at TU Dortmund University frequently shares updates and campus life glimpses on Instagram. Recent posts, including a view from the 19th floor of the campus (as seen in a September 25, 2025 post) and a recap of 2025 (shared on January 1, 2026), demonstrate the office’s active engagement with the university community. The office also highlights international researchers (as featured in a December 22, 2025 post) and student experiences (as shown in a post from February 14, 2026).

As the contest concludes on February 26th, the Referat Internationales will likely announce the winners shortly thereafter. The initiative provides a platform for international students to share their perspectives and connect with the university’s international office, further strengthening the campus’s global community.
