Tunisia: Weakened by the illegal emigration of its players, the Ghardimaou football club suspends its activities

Clandestine emigration is doing damage to Tunisian football. The Ghardimaou amateur club has, according to africanews, had to suspend its activities because of the illegal emigration of around thirty of its players to Europe.

The president of this football club playing in the fourth division of the Tunisian championship, Jamil Meftahi, specified that the players reached Europe “either by sea, or by going to Serbia (…) then by illegally crossing the borders towards other countries “.

In the opinion of Mr. Meftahi, one of the reasons for this massive exodus of players is linked to a lack of financial and material resources.

“We cannot buy equipment, jerseys and sports shoes and the players do not benefit from financial subsidies,” he explained.
