2023-05-14 14:50:41

Some 200,000 polling stations in Turkey closed at 5:00 p.m. local time on Sunday (4:00 p.m. in Switzerland) following welcoming a crowd of voters without notable incident. They were called upon to elect the thirteenth President of the Republic and renew the parliament. The ballot promises to be perilous for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has reigned supreme over the country for 20 years and who faces the social democrat Kemal Kiliçdaroglu. The first reliable results should be known in the early evening.
