Türkiye: with a goal and an assist from Dries Mertens, Galatasaray wins and widens the gap in the lead

Galatsaray won 4-1 on home soil on Sunday, during the 33rd day of the Turkish Süper Lig. An assist and a goal Dries Mertens allowed, among other things, the Istanbul club to beat the relegated Pendikspor and have 90 points at the top of the standings.

Mertens served Mauro Icardi for the opener following 35 minutes of play and Abdulkerim Bardakci scored a second goal before the break (40th). In the second half, Mertens hit the nail on the head with a third goal (76th). Alpaslan Ozturk reduced the score but a penalty from Kerem Akturkoglu (90th + 6) allowed the reigning Turkish champion to have a three-goal lead at the final whistle. Mertens played 82 minutes, replaced by Tete. Galatasaray wins a 14th league match in a row and is now five points ahead (with one game more) over second-placed neighbor Fenerbahce.
