Twins’ Victory: Kepler’s Go-Ahead Run and 14 Strikeouts Propel Minnesota to Win Over Mariners

SEATTLE — Max Kepler scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball in the eighth inning and Minnesota pitchers struck out 14 in the Twins’ 6-3 win over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday.

Kepler scored from third when reliever Andrés Munoz (2-3)’s pitch flew to catcher Tom Murphy, breaking the tie at 3. Kepler also hit a solo shot off Luis Castillo.

Ryan Jeffers put the Twins ahead with a single in the first inning. Rookie Julien and Kepler made it 3-0 with home runs in the fifth.

The Mariners tied it with a pair of home runs of their own. Tom Murphy connected off Twins starter Kenta Maeda in the sixth inning, and Eugenio Suarez tied it with a two-run homer in the seventh once morest Griffin Jax.

Alex Kirillof hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Devin Sweet in the pitcher’s major league debut.

Emilio Pagán (4-1) was the winner. Jhoan Durán pitched the scoreless ninth for his 16th save.

Maeda struck out nine for Minnesota. Castillo fanned a season-high 11 as the Mariners matched the Twins with 14.

For the Twins, Puerto Rican Carlos Correa 5-0, Willi Castro 5-2.

For the Mariners, Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez 4-1, with one run scored and two RBIs. The Dominicans Teóscar Hernández 3-0; and Julio Rodríguez from 3-0.
