Two drivers intercepted in Tongeren with unpaid fines for nearly… 130,000 euros

Two cars were seized on Wednesday in Tongeren because their drivers might not pay the criminal fines open in their name. The cumulative amount of their unpaid fines amounted to nearly 130,000 euros, local police said.
The local police of Tongeren-Herstappe, the federal police and the customs and excise administration carried out a large-scale action at the entrances and exits of the E313 motorway in Tongeren.

The objective was to carry out possible interceptions of drugs, large sums of money, alcohol and red diesel, or even to stop attempts at human trafficking. This action called “Joint Forces” was the first of its kind in Belgium. Fifty officers took part in the checks.
