The Hong Kong Stock Exchange halted trading in the securities and derivatives markets on Monday due to the approaching Typhoon Talim.

The Hong Kong Observatory said Storm Signal No. 8 will remain in effect until at least 4 p.m. (8 a.m. GMT)

According to the provisions of the exchange, the morning trading session will be suspended if the typhoon signal remains at 8 or more at 9 am Hong Kong time (0100 GMT).

The exchange will be closed for the rest of the day if the typhoon 8 signal is still in place at noon.

The storm did not cause major damage, although the Observatory warned of possible flooding in some areas.
