2023-10-03 21:48:41

The U.S. Congress passed a motion to dismiss House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the 3rd.

As a result, Speaker McCarthy, a Republican, became the first Speaker of the House in the United States to be dismissed by a vote of fellow lawmakers, and the Speaker with the second shortest term.

The dismissal resolution proposed by Rep. Matt Gates, also a Republican, on the 3rd was passed with 216 votes in favor and 210 once morest.

All Democratic lawmakers who participated in the vote voted in favor.

Hard-line Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Gates, have pledged to push for Speaker McCarthy’s dismissal by taking issue with the temporary spending plan for fiscal year 2024 passed by Congress on the 30th of last month.

The reason was that Chairman McCarthy cooperated with Democratic lawmakers in the process of passing the temporary spending plan.

Hard-line Republican lawmakers have opposed the temporary spending plan, saying it requires reducing the government budget.

Previously, last January, Speaker McCarthy had a difficult time ascending to the position of Speaker of the House following the election vote was rejected as many as 14 times due to opposition from hard-line lawmakers.
