Washington: U.S. officials have accused Russia of recruiting Syrian fighters to intensify its offensive once morest Ukraine, citing the Wall Street Journal.

Four U.S. officials have told the media that Russia has recruited Syrian fighters to capture Kiev shortly following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russia was part of the Syrian civil war in 2015, declaring support for President Bashar al-Assad.

U.S. officials say Syrian fighters are still in Russia ready to take part in the war, and no further details have been released on the exact number of recruits.

Many foreign fighters have already joined the war for Russia and Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba has claimed that more than 20,000 foreign volunteers have left the country to join the Ukrainian army.
