Dubai: Russia and Ukraine have decided to release 200 hostages based on talks mediated by the UAE. According to the agreement, Russia and Ukraine will release 100 hostages each.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the mediation effort between Russia and Ukraine has been successful. This is the third time this year that Russia and Ukraine are negotiating for the release of hostages under the mediation of the UAE. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the release of 200 people was possible on the basis that areas of agreement might be found in the talks.
The UAE thanked both countries for their cooperation. The UAE held its first mediation in December 2022 during the Russia-Ukraine war. Later, the hostages were handed over based on the efforts made by the UAE last January as well.
