UEFA extends its European Championship rules to club tournaments as well

Starting from the 2024-2025 season, only the team captains can speak to the referees during the matches even in the club tournaments of the European Football Association (UEFA).

The rule change was announced by the continental organization on Friday, and as the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) wrote in a statement, they decided to extend it, inspired by the success of the protocol used for the first time at the European Championship in Germany.

The international season starts next week, and then only the team captains will be entitled to ask the referees for an explanation during the meetings. The team captains must speak respectfully, but at the same time they must take responsibility for their teammates, so that they remain at a decent distance from the whistle master.

If the team captain is the goalkeeper, the teams must designate a field player to communicate with the referee.
