UEFA announced on Friday that it had reached an agreement with Liverpool supporters, who were demanding compensation, for physical and mental injuries caused by the incidents at the Stade de France, during the 2022 Champions League final in Paris.
Financial details of “this complete and definitive agreement” were not revealed by the authority. The Reds fans were represented by two sets of lawyers, Liverpool firm Bingham Long and London firm Pogust Goodhead, who had brought personal injury claims.
Scenes of chaos
These future compensations are in addition to the reimbursement of tickets that UEFA committed to making a year ago, following a damning independent report, which concluded “primary responsibility” in the serious incidents that occurred.
Endless waiting, supporters and families sprayed with tear gas or victims of theft… The police maintaining order, also singled out, during this final, the kick-off of which had to be delayed by 37 minutes , had given rise to scenes of chaos in Saint-Denis, provoking heated controversy in France and England.

This report had above all completely exonerated the Liverpool supporters, accused initially by UEFA of having arrived late at the stadium, then, in particular by the French Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, of having massively presented falsified tickets.
“Both parties have accepted the terms of this agreement […] without any acknowledgment of responsibility”concluded UEFA, saying “happy to have reached a common position which, we hope, will allow supporters to turn the page”.
