UK Government Allocates $150 Million to Protect Muslim Community Amid Rising Anti-Muslim Attacks

London: The British government has allocated an additional 150 million dollars (117 million pounds) to protect the Muslim community.

Funds will be spent on security cameras, alarms and fencing at mosques and religious centers.

The government’s new move comes amid an increase in anti-Muslim attacks in the country since the war in Gaza began.

“Anti-Muslim hatred has no place in our society. UK Home Secretary James Cleverley said in a statement that “we will never allow events in the Middle East to justify attacks on British Muslims”.

About four million Muslims live in the UK. Anti-Muslim hate watchdog Tel Mama found that attacks and other targeting of Muslims in person and online increased by 335 percent in February this year compared to February last year.

Cleverley said the Prime Minister has made it clear that we stand with Muslims in the UK and that is why this fund is now being made available to give assurance and confidence to UK Muslims at a critical juncture.

The British Prime Minister was criticized for failing to condemn hate speech from within the Conservative Party.

Conservative MP Lee Anderson accused London Mayor Sadiq Khan and Labor Party leader Keir Sturmer of being controlled by Islamists. Although Sunak said he might not accept the remarks, he was criticized for refusing to point out that the statement was Islamophobic.
