UK Mental Health Study: Why the UK is Lagging Behind in Global Mental Health Rankings

2024-03-12 09:14:45

A study of 71 countries found that the UK is lagging behind in mental health in the world. This is stated in the Mental State of the World survey conducted by research group Sapien Labs.

The study ranked the UK 70th out of 71 countries with the best mental health. The researchers came to such a conclusion by collecting data from around five lakh people. The impact of Covid and the high cost of living are making UK life difficult, the study says.

Excessive consumption of processed foods also has a significant impact on mental health. The researchers noted that the mental health of people over the age of 65 is relatively stable, while the health of younger people fluctuates and they cannot adapt to current life circumstances.

Researchers say that people in economically disadvantaged countries have relatively better mental health. Developed countries, including the UK, have fallen behind in terms of mental health, while poorer countries in Africa and Latin America have maintained a better position.
