A Ukrainian drone attack in the Russia-occupied southern Zaporizhzhia region killed one person and injured more than 10 others on Sunday, according to Moscow-installed authorities. The strike highlights the ongoing conflict and targeting of areas under Russian control as Ukraine continues its defense efforts.
The attack reportedly hit a residential building, with footage circulating on the Russian social network VKontakte showing firefighters working to extinguish the resulting blaze. The incident underscores the civilian impact of the war, now entering its third year, and the challenges of verifying information from active conflict zones.
Natalia Romanichenko, a local official in the Vasylivka municipality, stated to TASS that “more than 10 injured people” were reported, and “the body of a woman was found during the night.” This account, while provided by a Russian-installed official, offers a preliminary assessment of the casualties.
Simultaneously, in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, a Russian strike on the village of Velyka Babka wounded three people, Ukrainian authorities reported. This reciprocal exchange of strikes demonstrates the continued intensity of fighting along the front lines and the vulnerability of civilian populations on both sides of the conflict.
The Ukrainian Emergency Service reported a separate incident involving a targeted strike on emergency services personnel. According to a Telegram post, an initial drone strike ignited a house, injuring three individuals. A subsequent drone strike then hit the fire engine responding to the scene. This alleged targeting of first responders, if confirmed, would constitute a serious escalation and potential war crime.
