Ukraine will now celebrate Christmas on December 25 like Westerners and not on January 7 as it used to.

This measure comes at the end of a stride of others, such as the modification of toponymy in Ukrainian cities, and testifies to a desire to distinguish itself from Moscow; a phenomenon reinforced since the Russian invasion.

This is also part of a law decreed Friday by President Volodymyr Zelensky, reports the media BFMTV.

Ukrainians will therefore adopt the Gregorian calendar for the celebration of their religious holidays.

The Ukrainian Church, placed under guardianship for centuries, had already been declared independent of Russian influence in 2019.
