Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who met with the pope, effectively rejected Pope Francis’ peace proposal.

President Zelensky met with Pope Francis at the Vatican on the 13th local time and urged him to stand on the side of Ukraine.

However, the Vatican has reportedly reiterated its position to act as a neutral mediator between Ukraine and Russia.

“I ask that Russia condemn the crimes committed in Ukraine,” Zelensky tweeted following the meeting, “because victim and aggressor are never the same.”

He then emphasized, “We talked regarding the fact that our peace formula is the only algorithm effective in achieving a just peace,” and “proposed to participate in its implementation.”

Previously, at the G20 summit held in Indonesia in November last year, Ukraine presented 10 peace formulas, including items such as the withdrawal of Russian troops, the recovery of Ukrainian territory, and the prosecution of war crimes.

Given Ukraine’s position, Zelensky’s remarks appear to be a categorical rejection of the Pope’s peace plan.
