  • The Japanese government officially announced today (20th) that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will attend the G7 summit in Hiroshima.

    The Japanese government said, “President Zelensky has expressed a strong desire to participate in this summit face-to-face.” We decided to hold a session on this Ukraine.”

    “President Zelensky will also participate in a session on peace and stability with the heads of the G7 and invited countries,” he added.

    In this regard, Kyodo News and Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that President Zelensky departed Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia this morning following attending the Arab League (AL) Summit held in Saudi Arabia.

    According to reports, President Zelensky was on board a French government plane and is expected to arrive in Hiroshima this evening.

    It is the first visit by President Zelensky to Asia since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year.

    Japanese media analyzed that President Zelensky initially planned to participate in the G7 summit online, but decided to visit Japan in a flash to appeal for support for Ukraine ahead of a counterattack to recapture the region occupied by Russia.

    In addition to the schedule for the G7 summit, President Zelensky is expected to hold individual meetings with heads of state, including US President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
