Ukrainian refugees: the distress of some host families

Since the start of the war in Ukraine, 58,500 Ukrainians have obtained refugee status in Belgium. Many were taken in by families who wanted to help when war broke out. But over the months, the welcome which was supposed to be temporary has been prolonged, giving rise to sometimes difficult situations.

Anne Félix and Jean-François Dizier are two Carolos who welcomed a family with two children. They were originally supposed to stay for three months. But six months later, the Ukrainian family is still there. ” I took the steps with the CPAS, the emergency reception platform, Fedasil. Each time, I was told that these people were placed, and that it was no longer their responsibility.“, explains Anne Felix.
