UN Chief Antonio Guterres Urges Action on Himalayan Ice Melting at Global Climate Summit

Dubai: UN chief Antonio Guterres said that the massive melting of ice in the Himalayas is a disaster. He was speaking at the Global Climate Summit.

About 240 million people depend on the Himalayas and the 10 major rivers that originate in the Himalayas, such as the Indus, the Ganges and the Brahmaputra. A third of Nepal’s glaciers have disappeared in just 30 years. It is associated with greenhouse gas emissions. The 28th edition of the Global Climate Summit (COP 28) should respond in this regard. For this, developed countries should provide 100 billion dollars in aid’, Antonio Guterres said.

Various Heads of State and representatives including the Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal participated in the conference.
