And the Ixelles consultation commission on December 13 and 20 delivered a unanimous unfavorable opinion for two double-sided raised devices (2x16m² and 2×18.5m²) located on either side of bd Général Jacques, at the level of Etterbeek-Ixelles station. Unfavorable opinion also for a smaller device of 2 square meters.
On his Facebook page, town planning alderman (Ecolo) Yves Rouyet justifies these refusals: “They are located in a Zone of Cultural, Aesthetic and Beautification Interest (ZICHEE). In particular, the 16m² device placed just in front of the famous Quartier Latin restaurant which spoils the view of this historic building and the Gendarmerie Barracks of the 19th century. In addition, the General/Jacques/Couronne crossroads is an Accident Concentration Zone (ZACA), a road safety black spot. We understand that where road users must be extra vigilant, it is unwelcome to distract them. The Region and the Municipality have also recently carried out improvements at this location to improve and secure pedestrian crossings.
The alderman described these signs as “ugly, cumbersome and dangerous”. Their days are now numbered.
