Uncovering Qatargate: Corruption, Investigation, and Politicians’ Connections

2023-06-27 17:23:00

Last week, Michel Claise, the judge in charge of the investigation into suspicions of corruption within the European Parliament involving Qatar and Morocco decided “as a precaution” to divest himself of the case.

This decision is linked to a potential conflict of interest. The eldest son of the judge has indeed been in business since 2018 with the son of MEP Marie Arena, Ugo Lemaire, also worried in this file nicknamed “Qatargate”.

According to our information, the companion of Hadja Lahbib, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, is none other than Olivier Lemaire, father of Ugo and ex-husband of Marie Arena. Hadja Lahbib and other politicians were therefore, more than likely, well aware of the links between Judge Claise and Marie Arena, contrary to what they said.

On November 14, 2022, a month before Qatargate began, Hadja Lahbib met with Qatari Labor Minister Al-Marri, the man who allegedly paid the bribe through the nonprofit lucrative Fight Impunity. According to the Belgian minister, it was to discuss “human rights, women’s rights and LGBTQIA+ rights.
