Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Activists on social media circulated a picture of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the father of the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, who has become known as the “Father Prince” in the rain amid wide interaction.
The Qatari Princess, Maryam Al-Thani, republished the photo on her account, known on the social networking site Twitter, saying: “The luck of the rain that poured over your board .. God chose him in the right place.”
It is noteworthy that Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa became known as the “Father Emir” following his announcement of handing over the reins of power to his heir (then) Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad on June 25, 2013.
On May 31, 1977, Sheikh Hamad was sworn in as Crown Prince and appointed Minister of Defense. On May 10, 1989, he became head of the Supreme Planning Council, the council that was responsible for formulating the country’s social and economic policies before assuming the reins of government on June 27, 1995.
