A recent study has found that fat can bloat a vital part of your brain and send your cravings out of control.

Cambridge University scientists used head scans and found that overweight people had a larger hypothalamus, and this region is:

The link between the autonomic nervous system and the secretory system through the pituitary gland. Only the size of a pea but essential for controlling appetite and sending signals of fullness to keep you from overeating.

Study author Stephanie Brown said: ‘Eating a high-fat diet can lead to inflammation of the appetite control center. to weight gain.”

She added: “We know the hypothalamus is important for determining how much we eat but we actually have very little information regarding it because it’s small and hard to see on scans.”

Excess weight increases the risk of developing deadly diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and stroke.

The study compared the size of the hypothalamus in people of different weights and found that it “significantly increased” in obese participants.
