Dr. Iman Salah, a clinical medicine specialist at Mansoura University, told “Youm7” that the symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency anemia differ. Regarding normal anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency causes neurological and psychological changes, including:

-Neuritis resulting from vitamin B12 deficiency

– Numbness and pain in the extremities (hands and feet).

Weakness in the eye nerve may lead to vision problems.

Vitamin B12 deficiency has a major psychological impact, such as depression.

Memory problems may cause a type of Alzheimer’s linked to vitamin B12 deficiency.

Dr. Iman added that in addition to the mentioned symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency, there are known symptoms of anemia such as: general weakness, lethargy in the body, lack of concentration, frequent headaches, paleness and yellowing of the skin color, and other known symptoms of anemia.

Regarding the treatment of vitamin B12 deficiency anemia, Dr. Iman Salah said that treatment includes: – Providing a diet and meals rich in vitamin B12, such as: salmon, liver, eggs, tuna, milk, dairy products, fortified grains, in addition to taking medications.
