A Roman statue dating back 1,800 years ago has been discovered by construction workers working on a car park site in the UK.

The worker in question, Greg Crawley, discovered the marble head of a woman dating from the 1st or 2nd century on the property of a Peterborough estate in England last year, reports CNN.

Two weeks later, a bust matching the head was found a few meters away.

Experts have since analyzed the find and discovered that a metal bar was embedded in the head to allow it to be attached to the bust.

The estate, Burghley House, believes that one of the owners, Brownlow Cecil, may have purchased the antique during a trip to Italy, but has no idea how the sculpture ended up underground, calling it all “complete mystery”.

The worker who made the discovery said he felt “an incredible feeling having found something so ancient and special.”

“I mightn’t believe my ears when they told me it was a Roman marble statue,” he says.

The statue has been cleaned and is now inside the grounds.
