Unemployment is 6.9% and there are one million unemployed

Unemployment was 6.9% of the active population during the first quarter of 2023 and there are one million unemployed people, INDEC reported.

In the first quarter of 2022 unemployment had been 7% while in the October-December period of that year it had yielded 6.3%.

Among salaried people, there are 3.6 million who do not receive retirement contributions.

For its part, the underemployment rate -people who would like to work longer- was 9.4%.

Meanwhile, the activity rate – which measures the economically active population (EAP) over the total population – reached 48.3%.

For its part, the employment rate -which measures the proportion of employed persons in relation to the total population- stood at 45%.
